Jack U., age 96, passed away peacefully at Samaritan Hospice in Mount Holly on May 2 after a brief illness. Jack was born in Moorestown and lived the majority of his life in Burlington. For the last several years he was a resident of United Methodist Community in Collingswood. Jack is survived by his devoted daughters, Karen Schwamberger (John) of Hopewell Township and Eileen Vorlander (Scott) of Collingswood. He is also survived by stepson, Bruce McElyea (Laura) of Burlington Township. He was the loving grandpop of Erika Slowik (Andrew) of Kennet Square, PA and Jason Vorlander (Megan) of Audubon. Jack was the adoring great-grandpop of Ethan and Nora Slowik and Kylie and Alaina Vorlander. Jack lived at UMC with his beloved cat Rusty. He was also survived by dear friends Gene and Veronica Schub and former sonin- law Ken Heinrich. He had many friends at UMC as well. Jack was predeceased in death by his wife of 45 years and mother of his girls, Jean Carpenter and by Helen Stuckert-Carpenter, his wife of 15 years. Jack proudly served as a tech sargent in the USAF for 35 years. He served during the Korean Conflict having been stationed around the country. After discharge he joined the Air Force Reserves as an aircraft mechanic. Jack was leader and advocate of the UMC Veteran's Group. Jack was a long time 33rd degree Mason and was a member of Burlington Lodge 32 F&AM. Jack was a gifted wood worker and in his later years restored antiques at the Browse Around Shop for dear friends Chuck Johnson and Penny Joss. Thanks are extended to the various nursing and hospice caregivers that so kindly provided care to him in his hours of need. In Jack's memory the family asks that you thank a veteran for their service. A viewing for Jack was held Wednesday May 8, 2024 at the Page Funeral Home, 302 East Union St. Burlington. Mass of Christian Burial was also celebrated Wednesday in St. Paul R.C. Church, 223 E. Union St., Burlington. Interment followed in St. Paul’s Cemetery, E. Broad St., Burlington.
