A Perfect Outing
Joey Loperfido can now officially call himself a big league player. The Haddonfield Memorial and Duke University grad got called up by the Houston Astros this week and started his first game on Tuesday night versus the Cleveland Guardians.
Last season, Collingswood was among the more improved baseball programs in South Jersey. The Panthers went 15-11 overall and earned a share of the Colonial Conference Patriot Division title with Gloucester, when both finished 4-2.
With May right around the corner, the Haddon Township softball team is the one the rest of the Patriot Division is chasing. The Hawks are 8-2 overall, which includes a 4-0 division mark.
Since dropping last week’s game to West Deptford, 3-1, Haddon Township has recorded back-to-back shutouts versus Riverside, 16-0, and Collingswood, 2-0.
Green Wave Lead Woodbury Relays Pack, Again
The word consistent is fitting when talking about recent performances by the Audubon High School girls track and field team at the Woodbury Relays. Why consistent, you ask?
Audubon baseball coach Rich Horan once asked Al Radano, who he served as an assistant coach from 1979 to 1985 at Gloucester Catholic, a simple question. “When is it time that you know that you should retire from coaching?”
Radano’s reply: “You will know.”
Penn Relays Bound
It might still be early in the season but scoring does not seem to be a problem for the Haddon Township girls lacrosse team. Besides a 5-1 record in the SJILL National Division standings, the squad has tallied at least 10 goals in every game but one so far this season. That also happens to be the one game Haddon Township dropped to Williamstown, 10-8.
The Haddon Heights softball team is looking for a three-peat and the Garnets certainly have the personnel to make it happen. Entering the season with two consecutive Group 2 state championships, the Garnets have a mix of youth and experience.
